Gannon’s Blazek Named PSAC Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week for Fifth Time

ERIE, Pa. – Adam Blazek (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) has been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season.

Blazek averaged 14 points, seven rebounds, 6.5 steals and 3.5 assists while leading Gannon to a split last week. The freshman point guard led all scorers with 18 points against Mercyhurst, including 12 points during the second half as Gannon rallied from a 17-point in the final 11 minutes. Ten of his 12 second-half points came during the final 11-minute rally. After making a steal, he hit a three-pointer to pull Gannon within 67-64 with 57 seconds left. Blazek added a free throw 15 seconds later to cut the deficit to 67-65, before Gannon eventually fell 68-65. He had eight steals, seven rebounds and two assists against the Lakers.

The Erie, Pa., native finished the week with 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals against Lock Haven. Blazek has reached double digits in scoring 17 times this season, including each of the last four games. He has averaged 17.9 points, six rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.8 steals during the last 10 games. His 72 steals represents the third-highest single-season total in school history and are 15 shy of the school’s single-season record of 87.

Gannon (13-11, 11-9) returns to action Wednesday, February 22 at Slippery Rock. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m. The Golden Knights can clinch a postseason spot with victories at Slippery Rock and Indiana (Pa.) if either California (Pa.) or Slippery Rock loses their last two games.
