FIGHTING SCOTS FINISH SIXTH IN PSAC SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 19, 2012) – The Edinboro women’s swim team finished the PSAC Swimming and Diving Championships with a sixth place finish following the final day of competition at Cumberland Valley High School.

Edinboro tallied 305 points during the championships. West Chester grabbed its sixth straight women’s title with a team score of 684 points, well ahead of Clarion’s 441 for second place. California (Pa.) finished third, Gannon fourth and Indiana (Pa.) rounded out the top five. The Fighting Scots improved their finishing position of seventh from one season ago.
Senior Kate Marschner finished sixth for Boro in the 200-yard breaststroke with an NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time of 2:24.44. Fellow senior Katie Close took seventh in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:09.41, also an NCAA ‘B’ time.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of freshman Staci Schrecongost and sophomores Alexis Berdine, Katie Kelly and Julie Moretti captured sixth with a final time of 3:33.34.

Schrecongost also recorded an NCAA ‘B’ time of 17:47.87 in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a 12th place finish. Junior Kayla Joy earned an NCAA ‘B’ time in the same event, taking 14th place at 17:48.36.
